The Dhaka-Chattogram National Highway serves as a vital link between Dhaka and Chattogram, connecting the administrative capital with the commercial hub of Bangladesh. This highway plays a critical role in the country’s economy, supporting heavy freight traffic, especially with the development of major projects like the Mireshwarai Export Processing Zone and the Bangabandhu Tunnel.
With growing traffic demands, the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) initiated a major upgrade of the highway, increasing its capacity to accommodate the rise in vehicles. The project involves transforming the 231km highway into a 6-lane dual carriageway, expanding to 8 lanes in urban areas, with separate service lanes. This significant development is being carried out with support from an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan.
As part of the feasibility study and detailed design phase, ACE Consultants Ltd., in joint venture with BCL Associates Ltd., engaged in geotechnical investigations at key locations such as Gazipur, Ashulia, and Savar. These investigations played a pivotal role in understanding the underlying soil conditions, crucial for the successful upgrade of the highway infrastructure.
Our team conducted extensive soil testing and analysis to provide essential data for the design and construction of the upgraded highway. The detailed geotechnical study helped identify the best construction practices to ensure the stability and longevity of the project, laying the foundation for a highway that will serve the needs of Bangladesh’s growing economy.
