Project Name: Geotechnical Investigation at Upgradation of Mongla Port Project
Client: Egis India Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
Project Location: Mongla Port Area, Mongla, Khulna
Mongla Port, the second-largest port in Bangladesh, serves as a critical hub for international trade and commerce. Located at the confluence of the Pussur River and Mongla Nulla, 71 nautical miles from the Bay of Bengal and 45 km south of Khulna, this strategic port currently accommodates up to 35 ships at a time, with 6 operational jetties and plans to add 2 more dedicated container jetties.
As the port continues to grow, handling over 10 million tons of cargo, 100,000 TEUs, and 1,500 cars annually, the need for further development has become pressing, especially with the improved connectivity brought by the Padma Bridge. To meet this growing demand, the Upgradation of Mongla Port Project was initiated, focusing on enhancing the port’s capacity and infrastructure to serve larger volumes of cargo more efficiently.
In collaboration with Egis India Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd., our team conducted a comprehensive geotechnical investigation at the Pussur River and Mongla Port area. This investigation aimed to provide critical data on the subsurface conditions for the planning and design of the port’s upgradation. The scope of the work involved detailed soil analysis, drilling operations, and laboratory testing, ensuring the stability and suitability of the proposed development.
The geotechnical findings helped guide the design of the new jetties, ensuring they would be structurally sound and capable of handling increased traffic. Our study also provided essential data for the dredging operations required for larger ships to dock at the port. By delivering accurate and timely results, we supported the long-term growth of Mongla Port, contributing to its role as a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s trade network.
